Mid Life Women: find purpose, passion and meaning in the next 50 years

...making space for passion and abundance

Forget the choir of angels, your purpose is closer at hand.

What concerns you most about the state of the world? What needs to be fixed?

Answer these questions and you’ll be on the way to discovering your purpose - what you are here to do. If you come up with something like ‘politicians need to be fixed’, or 'the war' – look beneath this. Why do these things concern you? What’s the essence of your concern?

Whatever most concerns you, you have the ability to address in some way. Otherwise it would not have got your attention. This is part of your purpose. And you express your purpose in everything you do.

Your purpose is another form of intention - it's the intention you came into this world to live. Trouble is, you arrived without the owner's manual that spells it all out.

So you need to do the 'being a kid' thing and the education thing and setting up a home complete with kids often and establishing a career. And then somewhere in the midst of life everything changes again and you start to feel restless and wonder what it is you're supposed to be doing.

And, everything is constantly changing - including you. To stay connected with your ever changing self has become almost an art form.

Do you have the space in your life to hear what's next for you? Have you invested disproportionately in the lives, hopes and dreams of others? What if it were your time now? Can you even begin to imagine the possibilities?

What would it take to make space for YOU?

When you know what your purpose is, it acts like a beacon from a lighthouse. Sending out a strong signal and attracting what you need to live that purpose.

You are here to fulfill the purpose you were born with - through your work, your life, your relationships and connecting with your deepest self where you express your joy and your unique gifts.

Taking even a tiny step toward expressing who you are can ripple out to affect many and change the world. You are one powerful person, and everything is connected, remember?

To connect to your heart, soul and deeper meaning, does take disconnecting. But it’s disconnecting from busyness, to-do lists and other people at times.

It’s when you create space for yourself that you hear the voices within, nurture your soul and discover your unique self and what you are here to do.

Make some space for yourself to ponder these questions. It will be quicker than waiting for a choir of angels to descend and enlighten you.

1. What do you think is wrong with the world?
What makes you just want to shake people – if only they’d get it?

  • Is it your concern about how adults talk to children?
  • Is it that we allow people to be homeless in our wealthiest countries?
  • Is it that people act like victims in their lives?

Whatever your greatest concern, this is part of what you’re here in the world for. What is one thing you can do today in your life to make a small change?

2. Who do you feel envious of?
Perhaps: an artist friend, someone with a cottage, someone living by the sea, a friend who’s off to Tuscany for a month?

Julia Cameron says in The Artist’s Way ‘jealousy is a mask for our fear of doing something we really want to do but have not been brave enough to take action toward’. By taking note of our jealous feelings we gain insight into what may be buried deep within us.

What’s one action you can take to give yourself the essence of that part of yourself you’ve been denying? Could you go get some travel brochures, sign up for an art class, take yourself to the sea for a day?

3. What would you like to put out in the world before you leave? Imagine you had six months to live. If anything were possible, what would you like to be remembered for? What relationships would you let go immediately? Which ones feed your soul and nourish you?

Now take action - what is one thing you can do with this new found awareness?

And, watch for synchronicity. There are messages all around.

4. Address the Career area of your home - the Career area is about life purpose and your journey through life. This relates to your 'work' - what you do in the world, whether paid or not. This area on the Bagua is represented by the water element so it's all about flow. If you are in any struggle, this is a good one to address first.

Look at the Career area of your whole home, and of specific rooms such as your bedroom or home office for example. What is going on here?

What to include: It's a good place for a water fountain, an image of water, anything in the color black, a mirror, or anything representing your career path.

What not to leave out: Clutter of any kind. Leaking pipes or blocked drains. Anything representing something you would not want to have in your career or life. Anything representing struggle. Anything with no purpose.

Find out how to map the Bagua on your home, and find the Career area - and take a look. Whatever is in your Career area is impacting your life journey.

Have fun with these – uncovering your deepest yearnings can change your life – if you take even the smallest action towards them!

And I'd love to hear what these questions have sparked off for you.
